The main challenge of the project was to move beyond the initial, often simplified perception of the municipality of Škofljica as merely a suburban “bedroom community”
of Ljubljana - a place marked by traffic congestion, rapid in-migration, and infrastructure struggling to keep pace. The project began with an honest acknowledgement: “We have no idea who we are as a municipality.” Yet even a slightly deeper exploration revealed that the memories, stories, and identity of this place are very much alive and form an important part of the collective consciousness of its residents.
The true challenge, therefore, was to uncover a unifying narrative that expresses who the municipality and its people genuinely are - and translate it into a clear, recognisable visual language - the municipality’s new visual identity.

"Working with Nataša, Polona, and Alenka was never just a project. It was an experience. One that hits you, moves you, and leaves a mark. These are creators who do not work on the surface—they work in depth. Under the skin.
As a newly elected mayor, I did not want mediocrity. I did not want quick fixes, generic symbols, or easy shortcuts. I wanted identity. Something with
a backbone. That is why we chose the longer, more demanding path—
the path of process, reflection, research, and persistence.
We dismantled the question of who we are in order to rebuild the answer from the ground up. Analyses, focus groups, clashes of ideas, constant dialogue, countless images, materials, and concepts. No compromises.
No shortcuts.
The result is not merely visually refined. It is powerful. It is distinctive. It is ours. This identity does not embellish—it speaks. It does not follow trends—
it sets them. It carries the character and energy of Škofljica and enables everyone to connect with it, identify with it, and represent it with pride.
This is not a graphic solution. It is an identity you can be proud of.
An identity that stands confident and clear. An image that does not strive for perfection—because we are not perfect due to flawlessness, but because we put our hearts into what we do.
That is why our slogan, Škofljica – the meeting point of heartfelt people,
is more than just words. It is a truth. A value. A way of life. And this identity makes that unmistakably clear: Škofljica is a place of people who believe
in community, connection, and sincerity.
What has emerged is a top-tier example of strategic branding and contemporary design. Clear. Thoughtful. Heartfelt.
Without hesitation: what represents Škofljica today is not merely a visual solution. It is an identity. And it is exceptional."

The logo concept is composed of several elements that together form a multilayered message, telling the story of the unique characteristics of the Municipality of Škofljica.
The first element is the letter Š, representing Škofljica itself. It symbolizes the municipality’s aspiration to become a meeting point where everyone is welcome.
The second element is the Eurasian curlew, an endangered bird species that represents nature and has, through its placement in the municipal coat of arms, gradually become part of Škofljica’s identity. It reflects the close connection between life in the municipality and its natural environment, the community’s sensitive relationship with its natural heritage, and the distinctive character of the landscape—the marshlands.
The third element is the heart, symbolizing the warmth and goodwill of the local people. It speaks to the heartfelt efforts of the past and present for residents to increasingly live as a connected community, where people support and uplift one another.
In the composition, these elements flow into one another, ascending upward as a symbol of growth. This transition illustrates the idea of connection, which residents see as the key to building a forward-looking municipality—one where everyone is invited to contribute their skills and help shape a successful story for generations to come.
The calligraphic character of the emblem adds a sense of solemnity and highlights the importance of the Municipality of Škofljica’s protocol activities as a public institution.

With the new mandate and the leadership of Mayor Primož Cimerman, a wind of change and a shift in mindset have swept through the Municipality of Škofljica, showing that such changes are indeed possible.
A wave of connection and community spirit has taken hold, expressed through the message: “Škofljica — we are heartfelt people.” This voice changes the meaning of the words “we have no idea who we are as a municipality” and creates space for the stories of the past, the growing vibrancy of today, and the collective efforts invested in shaping the future. The municipality is awakening more fully, unlocking its potential - rooted first and foremost in the people who call Škofljica home.
Demographically, Škofljica is one of the most recently settled municipalities, with a large share of young families who are now growing up. People choose to live here for the valuable proximity to the capital city, while still enjoying life on the edge of nature and the countryside. A village-like way of life remains strong: greeting one another on the street, maintaining close relationships, socialising, and offering mutual support - behaviours far more common here than in urban environments.
Nature and outdoor activities hold great value for residents. People here appreciate the peace, the ability to step away from the noise, and the marshland (Barje) 's treasured heritage, with its prehistoric traces, as well as the forest. Their commitment to protecting nature is even reflected in the municipal coat of arms, which features the endangered Eurasian curlew.
Residents nurture their talents and passions through numerous local associations that bravely and wholeheartedly preserve identity, foster connection, and strengthen the community - each in its own unique way.
The rural character of Škofljica is also evident in its architecture: predominantly single-family homes built around the central church, preserved farmsteads, inns, other rural buildings, and agricultural structures. Around 130 traditional hayracks remain, including the largest - Robežnik’s double hayrack next to the Španček inn.
Škofljica is a crossroads of many routes; a major regional road connecting the Ribnica–Kočevje region with Ljubljana runs through it. What once served as a key driver of development now represents a significant, yet still untapped, opportunity - one that the community has already recognised.
The municipality has set an ambitious goal: to transform Škofljica into a vibrant meeting point where not only residents enjoy living, but where people from elsewhere will gladly gather as well.
